Weibull Claes (Central Bacteriological Laboratory of Stockholm City, Stockholm, Sweden), and Hans Gyllang. Metabolic properties of some L forms derived from gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. J. Bacteriol. 89:1443-1447. 1965.-L forms of two gram-positive bacteria, a staphylococcus and a diphtheroid, were found to be devoid of catalase and cytochromes, whereas the normal bacteria from which these L forms were derived contained large amounts of these enzymes. On the other hand, L forms of a gram-negative bacterium, Proteus mirabilis, contained the same cytochromes as normal Proteus bacteria. (Previous investigations showed that normal cells and L forms of P. mirabilis contain approximately the same amounts of catalase.) The respiratory quotients (Q(O2)) of all L forms studied were much lower than those of the corresponding normal bacteria. The conversion of the normal organisms into L forms did not markedly affect their growth rate, measured as the time required for doubling the bacterial mass during the exponential-growth phase.

Abstract: Background and Aim: In recent years study of medicinal plants in order to discover new pharmaceutical supplies against microbial strains has been considered very much. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of shoot aqueous and ethanolic extracts of purple coneflower against some gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Methods:T...
متن کاملEvaluation of Antibacterial Properties of Different Concentrations of Pecanum Harmala Ethanolic Extract on Some Standard Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria in Vitro
Introduction: Today, due to the increased drug resistance of bacteria to common antibiotics, it is important to find new antimicrobials with easy access, natural and with fewer side effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Pecanum harmala ethanolic extract on the activity of some standard bacteria in vitro. Methods and Materials: After collecting the plants and confirmin...
متن کاملComparison between Two Groups of Pathogenic Bacteria under Different Essential Oil Extract of Ocimum basilicum L.
This study was conducted to assessment the antibacterial activities of different part of basil essential oil on the standard gram-negative bacteria include Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, and gram-positive ones including Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogen. The basil essential oil was provided from two part of the plant (leaf and herb) at...
متن کاملIsolation of Gram-positive Bacteria from Different Sources and Evaluation of their Probiotic Properties
Introduction: Probiotics are defined as live non-pathogenic microorganisms and if administered in adequate amounts, can have beneficial effects on their hosts. This study aimed to isolate Gram-positive bacteria from different sources and to evaluate their probiotic properties. Methods: We obtained five samples from various sources including yogurt, infant feces, cheese, and soil under aseptic m...
متن کاملEvaluation of the antimicrobial effects of Glycyrrhiza glabra l. on some gram positive and gram negative pathogenic bacteria in laboratory conditions
Background and objectives: Today, due to the increasing antibiotic resistance of bacteria, the use of medicinal plants as a suitable alternative to antibiotics has increased significantly; therefore, in this study, the antibacterial effects of methanolic extracts of Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli were evaluated. Methods: In this laborator...
